It's that time again.  Coming up in June is the annual W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival.  The week-long events features music, smokey barbecue, a Mardi-Gras style parade and more.

All events are free.

No Summer Concert Series on Friday nights this year

The Downtown Henderson Partnership has announced that for "reasons beyond our control", they will be unable to provide the Friday night Summer Concert Series this year.

"We regret this has happened but we want to thank all of you who came out  the past 14 years and supported this event," they wrote in a post on their website.

The DHP staff says it hasn't given up the Summer Concert Series, only that the program won't exist this year.

HPD:  Henderson man drunk, carrying pot while burglarizing garage

A 26-year-old Henderson man has been arrested on burglary and drug charges after police found him in a garage on Powell Street.

Police say David Yates was found with items taken from the garage.  They say he also had marijuana and drug paraphernalia and was under the influence of alcohol when he was taken into custody. 

He's been charged with third degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of marijuana, possession of drug parapernalia and public intoxication.

Repainting of Twin Bridges to be funded with money from gasoline tax

HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE)- Over the weekend, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced there was a problem with the paint when the bridges were painted in 2007.

Kentucky Transportation officials tell 14 News that all of their bridge maintenance projects like re-painting the Twin Bridges are funded through tax dollars.

KTC public information officer Keith Todd says money for projects like this one comes from a gasoline tax. He says, in Kentucky, 18.5 cents from each gallon of gasoline purchased goes into that maintenance fund.

HPD:  Drunk man arrested, threatens to blow up police department

 

A Henderson man was arrested for threatening to blow up the police department last week.

Police say they were called to Methodist Hospital on Friday afternoon where they arrested Donald R. Eapman for public intoxication.  It was while he was in police custody that Eapman made his threat.

He was taken to the Henderson County Detention Center and charged with second degree terroristic threatening.
