HCC graduation set for May 10; Dr. Charles Shearer to speak |

Keynote speaker, Dr. Charles Livingston Shearer, will address the graduates at HCC’s spring graduation ceremony on Friday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the McCormick Hall, Fine Arts Center. 204 potential graduates earing a total of 292 various credentials are eligible to walk in the ceremony.
Dr. Shearer was appointed president of Transylvania in 1983 and enjoyed a distinguished 27-year tenure. He became President Emeritus at Transylvania in 2010. Born in Louisville, KY, he holds a BS in Accounting and an MA in Diplomacy and International Commerce from the University of Kentucky and a MA and PhD in Economics from Michigan State University. During his tenure at Transylvania, he oversaw an over $53.5 million investment in 13 new buildings, athletics fields and major renovations. Enrollment grew from 655 to the highest enrollment ever of 1,153 in 2008. The university’s endowment increased to $144 million in 2007 under his leadership.
Dr. Shearer served as Instructor in Economics and Accounting and basketball coach for Henderson Community College from 1967-1969.
