Grant money available for facade improvements to downtown Henderson buildings | Business
The Downtown Henderson Partnership announces the availability of the new DHP Façade Improvement Program for buildings located in the Central Business District. The Henderson County Fiscal Court granted the DHP funding through the Coal Severance money in the amount of $50,000.
The Downtown Henderson Partnership established the DHP Façade Revolving Loan Program to promote economic incentive and historic preservation within the Henderson Downtown Historic Business District. The façade revolving loans are interest free loans that will be distributed and managed by the DHP Loan Committee and DHP Design Committee. The program is to encourage downtown property owners to make the needed exterior building façade improvements. By improving the appearance of the building facades, the program serves to improve the economic viability of the downtown and to preserve the downtown historic buildings.
Eligible applicants for façade renovation and restoration loans include building owners and tenants (tenants with 3-5 years in business and building owners' approval) of commercial buildings in the defined Central Business District.
Applicants may utilize the façade revolving loan for these areas of façade work; painting, new awnings; cleaning and tuck-pointing of the brick, new signage, storefront lighting and other areas with approval from the committees. Loans will be available in the amounts ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, with $5,000 being the maximum amount granted.
The DHP created the Façade Revolving Loan Program to best utilize the money received from Henderson County Fiscal Court. "The DHP Board of Directors wants to be fiscally responsible as well as provide a fund that can be used over many years for the maintenance and upkeep of downtown Henderson's beautiful historic buildings." said Beth Strawn, director of DHP. Having an attractive downtown should increase property values, improve the marketability of space within the buildings and attract businesses and residents to the area.
