Ky. Assoc. of Manufacturers CEO to speak at Henderson Chamber event | Business
Greg Higdon, former Kentucky State Senate Majority Whip and the current president and CEO of the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers, will be the featured speaker at the Henderson-Henderson County Chamber of Commerce's Industry Appreciation Breakfast, set for Oct. 17 at Henderson Country Club.
Higdon's presentation will touch on current trends in the commonwealth's industrial sector and his view of the major issues facing Kentucky manufacturers in the near future.
"We're honored to have someone of Greg's experience and insight speak to our members at this special event," Chamber President Brad Schneider said. "Manufacturing and heavy industry are the backbone of both our regional and state economies. It's important we honor their efforts every year at this breakfast, and it's just as important we hear from folks such as Greg who are so intrinsically involved in helping companies succeed."
A Western Kentucky native and graduate of Brescia College, Higdon served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return from military service he helped run his family's retail businesses. In 1981 he was elected to the Kentucky Senate and rose to Majority Whip. In 1991 he took the position of deputy secretary of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet in the administration of Gov. Brereton Jones. Since 1994 he has served in various positions for KAM and was named president and CEO in 2009.
Established in 1911, KAM is the leading advocacy organization for Kentucky manufacturers. It represents hundreds of firms both large and small in efforts to create a manufacturing-friendly environment in the commonwealth. The KAM website is www.kam.us.com.
The Industry Appreciation Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $12 for chamber members, $18 for non-members and includes a buffet breakfast. In addition to Higdon's remarks, the event will include the announcement of the 2013 Industry of the Year Award. Nominations for the award are being accepted through Oct. 4. The 2012 winner was Audubon Metals.
