Open house at new pediatric care facility is Friday

 

A  ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house is set for Friday at 11:30 a.m. at  the new Methodist Pediatrics Clinic located at 2000 N. Elm Street, Suite 1-B, in Henderson.   

Methodist Hospital is welcoming Dr. Jennifer Liles and Dr. Justin Morgan, both Board Certified Pediatricians, along with Kim Wells, APRN, and a staff of five.

Henderson County High School’s Project Graduation is scheduled for May 24 from 11:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m. at the high school. This is a community supported drug and alcohol free event for the current 2013 graduating class. Project Graduation coincides with the Henderson County High School graduation ceremony which will take place earlier in the evening. Nearly 325 students are expected to attend this year’s Project Graduation celebration.

Activities for the evening will include: karaoke, a D.J., bungee run, sumo wrestling, casino night, and, of course, plenty of food, soft drinks, and lemon shake ups. A multitude of prizes is given away at Project Graduation each year. Last year more than 85% of the graduating class attended. There were approximately 200 senior guests and 120 volunteers.

Third Annual River Heritage Day brings fun  and crawfish to Henderson riverfront

 

The Depot Community Room and the River Heritage Day Committee will host the third annual River Heritage Day on May 11 by the riverfront in Henderson.

This two-part event offers a free, family-friendly daytime event in Audubon Mill Park, followed by a fund-raising dinner served by theriverfront at On Deck. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Riverview School and provide seed money for future River Heritage Day events.

The highlight of the daytime event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Audubon Mill Park, will be the River Works Discovery Center, a hands-on educational exhibit from the National Rivers Hall of Fame that features giant 3-D puzzles and a working lock and dam. There will be numerous activities, games, and exhibits to help you celebrate the history, culture, commerce and conservation of the Ohio River.

Hike by lantern at Audubon State Park June 1

 

Kentucky State Parks will be taking part in National Trails Day on June 1 with events across the state to recognize the excellent hiking opportunities at state parks including John James Audubon State Park in Henderson.

On June 1, you can venture out with the park’s interpretation staff on a hike by lantern light.  Some kid-friendly battery-lanterns will be provided. Feel free to bring your own; please no glass lanterns. Dress for the weather, bring a flashlight and meet at the Audubon Museum. Hike lasts 7-8:30 p.m. Free. Contact Julie McDonald at 270-826-2247 or juliea.mcdonald@ky.gov.

The Ohio Valley Art League is opening several unique homes for tours and tastes of specialty chef creations.

Visitors can view beautiful homes, while enjoying equally fine cuisine. 

An herb sale, silent art auction and a Dixon Appliance raffle will also take place during the tours.

HCC plans Community Appreciation Fair for adults, kids

 

HCC plans to celebrate its programs and thank the community for its support during a Community Appreciation Fair on April 25, 4-7 p.m. in the Sullivan Technology Center on campus.

April is National Community College Month, and HCC would like to extend gratitude to the community for its support over the years. Faculty and staff will serve food and provide activities for children such as an inflatable, ring toss, and face painting! The community will also be able to experience the hands-on teaching methods of HCC faculty through fun visits to the nursing simulation lab and the dental clinic where children will learn about dental care through fun activities.
