Four free workshops will take place at the Professional Development Center, 631 North Green Street in Henderson, Kentucky for first-time parents with babies 0-12 months of age.

Thanks to the Early Childhood Council grant, the following workshops will be available on the dates listed:

1. Baby Bedtime-Sleep Training Workshop: May 30th from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. with speaker Jim Schroeder, PhD Child Psychology

2. Surprising Facts about your Baby’s Brian Workshop: June 6th from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. with speaker Amy Hood Hooten, EdD

Hike by lantern at Audubon State Park June 1

 

Kentucky State Parks will be taking part in National Trails Day on June 1 with events across the state to recognize the excellent hiking opportunities at state parks including John James Audubon State Park in Henderson.

On June 1, you can venture out with the park’s interpretation staff on a hike by lantern light.  Some kid-friendly battery-lanterns will be provided. Feel free to bring your own; please no glass lanterns. Dress for the weather, bring a flashlight and meet at the Audubon Museum. Hike lasts 7-8:30 p.m. Free. Contact Julie McDonald at 270-826-2247 or juliea.mcdonald@ky.gov.

Nature program for toddlers this Friday in Henderson

 

Audubon State Park will host ‘Walk on the Wild Side’, a nature program for toddlers this Friday, April 26

Aimed at youngsters 3 to 5 years old, these 45 minute to one hour interactive programs will explore what nature has to offer. With each new topic toddlers will discover how wildlife and nature shapes the world we live in. Each program will involve one or more of the following activities: games, crafts, live animal visit, hike, or songs.

Methodist Hospital will host another free “Living Healthy” event scheduled for Tuesday, April 9. This program, entitled “It’s 6 o’clock! What’s for dinner? – Healthy Meals Made Fast and Easy,” will be presented by Methodist Hospital chef, Michael Thorne, and registered dietitian, Danielle Hazelwood. The cooking demonstration will take place at the Hospital, located at 1305 North Elm Street in Henderson, in the North Tower, Lower Level, Therapy Services Department, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

With the signing of the American Taxpayer Relief Act at the beginning of January, 2013 is positioned to be a year of significant changes for taxpayers. Even though these changes will not affect the taxes you file for 2012, they may have significant impact on your 2013 income. Here are some tips on how you can better prepare yourself for tax planning in the year ahead.

Audubon State Park plans dinner, Easter egg hunt

Kentucky State Parks will be serving their annual Easter buffets March 31, and several parks are planning other special events.

The menu includes beef carved on the line, baked country ham, golden fried catfish and hushpuppies. The meal will also include fresh fruit, a cheese bar, garden vegetables, salad and desserts.

The price for adults is $18.49 and children (12 and under) are $8.49, not including tax. The price includes a beverage. (Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park and Pennyrile Forest State Park menu and pricing will vary)

Several parks are planning egg hunts and other activities for guests.
