Former Henderson coach pleads not guilty in wife's murder | News

HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE)- Steven Cotter was in a Henderson courtroom Tuesday morning, to enter a plea in the murder of his wife and find out about his bond.
His attorney confirmed that Steven was pleading not guilty. Cotter was given a $100,000 bond. He had to pay at least 10% to leave jail on Friday.
One condition of his bond; he is not to possess firearms or any deadly weapons.
36-year-old Steven Cotter was indicted last Wednesday by a Henderson County Grand Jury, accused of murdering his wife, Michelle Cotter.
He was an assistant coach of the high school boys soccer team. She was an assistant dance team coach and guidance counselor.
On May 15, officials arrived on scene just before 3 a.m. where officers say they found 39-year-old Michelle Lewis Cotter with a gunshot wound in the couple's home on Cardinal Lane.
It took seven months for any charges to be filed in this case.
Also Tuesday, Steven Cotter's pretrial was set to begin on March 18; his trial was scheduled for March 20-22; However, he may file for continuance.
Cotter could face 20 to 50 years if convicted.
