Larry Tutt honored for roles as educator, mentor

Henderson Community College will honor Larry Tutt as the newest member of the Super Sunday Hall of Fame.

Super Sunday is an annual Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) statewide initiative intended to increase the college-going rate of students of color. As part of this initiative, a Super Sunday Hall of Fame has been established, highlighting outstanding African-American alumni.

“Mr. Tutt is a valued member of the college faculty and staff,” said Dr. Kris Williams, HCC President. “Larry works hard in his many roles at HCC. He especially supports our minority students in their academic successes.”

Associated with the college for 24 years, Tutt wears several hats as an educator and a community mentor. He is an associate professor and also serves as the coordinator of Disability Support Services. Tutt graduated from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee and earned a bachelor of arts degree. He later continued his education at Murray State University where he earned a master of science degree in human services.

In addition to the roles mentioned above, he has held several other integral roles such as coordinator of the human service program, coordinator of student activities, and off campus coordinator to part-time instructors. His commitment to education has brought attention to his qualities for teamwork and leadership.

He is a member of HCC’s Diversity Learning Community and enjoys the opportunity to coordinate the annual Super Sunday Initiative, in Union County. He says he hopes to continue inspiring others as an educator, coordinator and a committed community representative.

On February 24, Henderson Community College will sponsor Super Sunday at First Missionary Baptist Church,  20 South Elm Street  (11:00 a.m., college fair 1:30– 3:00 p.m service) and Mt. Sterling Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 618 Pike Street, Sturgis (service 10:00 a.m. college fair 12:30 – 2:00 p.m).

On this day Henderson Community College and each of the other 15 KCTCS colleges and System Office will partner with churches in their communities to host information fairs for prospective college students and their families.
