Audubon State Park to hold Kids Fishing Derby

 

Audubon State Park will hold a Kids Fishing Derby Saturday, June 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the boat dock.

Children ages 5-16 can participate.  Three age-specific division groups will offer prizes for the biggest fish, smallest fish, and most numerous caught.  Kids can test their fishing prowess and compete for prizes and those who’ve never fished before are welcome.

10th annual Masters Challenge kicks off soon

 

The 2013 Masters Athletic Challenge will be held May 16 - June 8, and will feature bowling, swimming, tennis, golf, cycling, and track and field.

Formerly known as the Green River Regional Senior Games, this annual event promotes physical fitness and healthy competition among area residents age 50+.

The games kick off in mid-May, with bowling at Diamond Lanes South in Owensboro (Thursday, May 16) and swimming at Owensboro Health’s HealthPark (Saturday, May 18).

North Middle School’s Greenhouse Sale is in full bloom. The North Middle School students are selling various seasonal plants ranging from garden plants to flowers. Over the last two years students and staff created a greenhouse that is a fully functional, educational endeavor. The sale is open to the public and will take place at North Middle School from April 23-26 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Cabela's King Kat catfishing tourney comes to Henderson this Saturday

Fishermen will descend upon the Henderson Riverfront this weekend for the Cabelas King Kat Tournament. This is a one day event, taking place Saturday.

The weigh-in will take place at Riverfront Park.

Last week, over 65 top anglers from 7 different states competed in the King Kat event in South Bostin VA, chasing not only cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2013 Cabela’s King Kat Classic.

22nd Annual 5K Run Walk Classic set

The 22nd annual Tri-Fest 5K Run Walk Classic is planned for Saturday, April 20, 2013 in Henderson. This year’s event boasts professional timing services by the Greater Evansville Runners/Walkers Club, newly designed long sleeve t-shirts for all early race registrants, team discount for those that register as a team of 8 or more, and awards given to the winners in different divisions.  Title sponsors are Henderson’s Methodist Hospital and Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance.  Proceeds from the event benefit Habitat for Humanity of Henderson.

Henderson Co. comes up short in Sweet 16

Eriel McKee scored 27 points as Anderson County beat Henderson County 65-54 Wednesday in the first round of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 tournament.

McKee also added eight rebounds, five steals, two assists and two blocks in leading Region 8 champion Anderson County (33-1) to its first Sweet 16 win.

Makenzie Cann scored 17 points and notched six assists for the Lady Bearcats, while Kali Whiteside collected nine points and 10 rebounds.

Send the Lady Colonels off to state Tuesday

A public send-off for the state-bound Henderson County Lady Colonels is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m.   They will leave from Henderson County High School for Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.

A school-wide pep rally is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the main gym on March 12.

Henderson County takes on Anderson County in the opening round of the Sweet 16 Wednesday night.
