Wiener dogs return to Ellis Park this weekend | Sports & Recreation
Ellis Park is ready for the 9th running of the Wiener Dogs this weekend. Forty-four of the fastest little racers will storm the field between the 3rd and 5th races on July 13th and 14th for preliminary runs. The top three finishers of each race will then compete on July 20th for the title of Grand Champion. The Wiener Dog races have been a fan favorite at Ellis Park for nearly a decade.
Ellis Park kicked off its 90th Live Racing Season this past Thursday, July 4. With nearly 14,000 people in attendance throughout the weekend, it was deemed a successful opening. The fan favorite KY HBPA’s Dollar Days returned this season on Sundays. The menu of dollar items includes hot dogs, draft beer, popcorn, bottled water and soda. New this year, guests can visit any concession stand to take advantage of these great offers.
In addition to the Wiener Dog races this weekend, the thundering thoroughbreds will take the field on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the first post time being at 12:50p.m. Gates will open at 11:00a.m.
Ellis Park operating hours for simulcast and IRM’s are 10 am - midnight Sunday through Thursday and 10 am - 2 am Friday and Saturday. Live racing runs July 4 through Labor Day, with the first post at 12:50 pm. Ellis Park also runs wiener dog, ostrich and camel races during the season.
